MPD W. Oakland Major Crime Task Force

The Milford Police Department has been a member of West Oakland Major Crime Team since the inception in 1993. The Major Crime Team has enabled participating departments to receive a dozen or more investigators from neighboring departments to assist in the investigation of major cases including homicides. These cases often require a quick response by detectives to investigate the crime scene, collect evidence and interview witnesses. The sharing of resources and personnel affords each department the necessary tools to thoroughly investigate these cases particularly in the first critical 48 hours. In addition, these types of cases are very costly and can overwhelm staffing of smaller departments, especially if the investigation extends for weeks or months. An important part of the mutual aid agreement is that compensation for individual officers is provided by their own departments. This results in tremendous cost savings for the originating agency.
